Out of Line picks up where A Chorus Line left off. A humorous and compelling look at the lives of successful Broadway performers who fight to get out of the chorus!
Seasoned members of “The Chorus” sing and dance their way out of “the Line” into featured roles.
More about this exciting new musical:
Each year, the "gypsies" of Broadway, the dancers and singers who form the chorus for musical theatre in New York, vote on the person who in their estimation has made the most substantive contribution to the industry. Usually the chosen person has had a long career, worked in many shows, and been a leader among his or her peers.
The Broadway Gypsy Robe is presented to the chorus member who has performed
in the most Broadway shows.
And the overall theme of the piece is their struggle to get out of the
chorus, to leave the chorus line and get the opportunity to act in roles
of their own, rather than always being the understudy who saves the
show!
OUT OF LINE deals with the frustrations and elations associated with being a "gypsy," from the career choice itself, to the pressures of a difficult industry, to the personal price a person must pay, living this unusual lifestyle. It is funny, touching, and stimulating.
The original material which makes up the piece was produced by cast interviews with real Broadway gypsies, asking about how they saw their careers, the ups and down, the positive/negative aspects of their choices. Julio Matos, the piece's creator, has woven these interviews into a musical production, featuring songs by John Franceschina, addressing the varied aspects of Show Biz careers.
